Barry and I decided we needed to charter a yacht for 24 hours in the Bay of Islands. I knew that if I didn’t go sailing at least once while I was in NZ I’d never forgive myself. Yes, I know there are “rum races” hosted by the RZNYS and by the Ponsonby Cruising Club, but I wasn’t sure I’d be able to squeeze one in later given my travel plans. So, off we went to The Moorings in Opua to see what they had to offer. We ended up getting a Beneteau 38. Now the only problem was finding other travelers to share the cost with us. We ended up convincing Rae, Lorraine and Phillip to join up. We sailed out into the Bay of Islands and anchored overnight in Urupukapuka Bay. My camera’s batteries were dead, so these were all taken with Barry’s Canon G1.
